Event Could Result in Increase of Persecution Against Christians in Muslim-Dominated Countries

SANTA ANA, CA (ANS) -- Over the weekend, angry crowds in Kabul, Afghanistan and Jakarta, Indonesia protested and threatened retaliation if the non-denominational Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla. goes through with its plans to publicly burn the Quran on Saturday.

Reaction to the possible burning of the Muslim holy book on the ninth anniversary of the September 11 Muslim terrorist attacks on America could unleash worldwide rage – directed not only at the United States and its troops overseas but also Christians, especially those living in Muslim-dominated countries.

Others also join in the criticism saying the actions of this church will put the lives of Christians in great danger

LAKE FOREST, CA (ANS) -- Dr. Norm Nelson, President and on-air host of the nationally syndicated Christian radio program, Compassion Radio, has spoken out against the book-burning of copies of the Qur'an by a Florida pastor scheduled for this coming Saturday, September 11, 2010.

According to Dr. Nelson, "This action reflects either ignorance or a lack of concern for the damaging consequences of such an act which will put at-risk the lives of Christians and Christian workers in some Muslim-majority countries."

In fact, Nelson says, the scheduled Qur'an-burning "represents a disregard for the spirit of Christ and has the potential to destroy years of relational bridge-building which Christians have worked so hard to establish. There is no up-side to this disrespectful event. I condemn it completely!"

Bedridden Man Now Walks
Written by Gospel for Asia

Kirit was healed after some Christian pastors like this one prayed for him.

SOUTH ASIA (ANS) -- Kirit Gavde was miserable. For six years, he had been suffering from the debilitating effects of tuberculosis. His anguish was compounded by asthma, and he was barely able to breathe. Kirit spent most of his time confined to bed, being cared for by his faithful wife.

He went to a lot of doctors, but all their treatments failed to help him. Kirit's family was deeply devoted to their traditional gods. They fervently worshiped them and continued to plead for Kirit's healing, but to no avail.

Kirit's health continued to decline, and he had no peace in his heart. He grew even more depressed and lonely and gave up all hope for healing. Grief and despair overwhelmed him.

But Still Orphans First is helping some of them at the Maison-de-Lumière orphanage

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI (ANS) -- Almost eight months after the January 12th earthquake, Haiti’s children are still hungry, thirsty and uneducated. The billions of dollars poured into this devastated nation seem to have made little impact.

Granted, the Port-au-Prince airport has been renovated (nice for those of us traveling to and from Haiti). But little else has -- at least not in the areas where we work -- as I quickly discovered during a recent return visit with my husband, Louis.

Piles of rubble create a backdrop for shoddy tent-cities, where a lack of basics such as sanitary water (or, in some cases, any water) fosters disease. Pin-thin dogs lie limp like emaciated corpses, displaying wounds inflicted by locals who believe dogs must be beaten into submission. And children play in dirt or roam the streets begging for food and water. Few attend school.
